University of Bayreuth, Press Release No 162/2021 - 12 November 2021

Celebrating the University of Bayreuth in person: Invitation to our 2021 Dies Academicus

The University of Bayreuth will celebrate its Dies Academicus on 25 November 2021. It will be the 46th anniversary of the start of teaching. While last year's Dies Academicus was celebrated online due to the pandemic, it will - as things stand - finally take place again in the usual festive setting. Students, employees, friends, and supporters of the University are cordially invited to the Audimax. The 2G rule will apply. Admission is free, but participation only possible upon prior registration at www.jahrestag.uni-bayreuth.de.

The past year has challenged all members of the University of Bayreuth in different ways. Digital and hybrid teaching, research under pandemic conditions, working in part from home, communicating and maintaining contacts primarily via digital channels: There are many reasons to be proud of the fact that it has not only been possible to keep things running professionally as usual, but also to achieve real success. Student life has returned to the campus, which is reason to celebrate. At the University of Bayreuth's Dies Academicus, the members of the University Governing Board will not only look back on the year, but also provide an outlook on developments and plans for the near future.

As part of the Dies Academicus, selected University-wide honours will be presented once again this year. For the first time, the University of Bayreuth's Gold Badge of Honour will be awarded for in-house achievements that go far beyond normal service, and have been performed for the benefit of the University of Bayreuth.

Professor Dr. Nina Nestler, Professor Dr. Friedrich Sommer, Professor Dr. Michael Guthe, Professor Dr. Eberhard Rothfuß, Professor Dr. Florian Klaeger, Professor Dr. Rudolf Schüßler, Professor Dr.-Ing. Mark-Matthias Bakran, and Professor Dr. Stephan Clemens are the recipients. With this award, the University Governing Board is honouring the extraordinary commitment of these individuals who, in their function as deans of studies, have contributed in a particularly commendable way to overcoming the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic in the area of University teaching.

Dr. Markus Zanner, former Provost of the University of Bayreuth and Founding Provost of the Nuremberg University of Technology since January 2021, is to be awarded the University Medal. The University Governing Board and the Senate of the University of Bayreuth thus honour his exemplary commitment as a science manager who, in the function of Provost of the University of Bayreuth, helped to shape strategy far beyond mere administration and had a lasting impact on the profile of the University.

Henry Schramm, President of the Upper Franconian District Council and former Mayor of Kulmbach, is awarded the title of Honorary Senator. The University Governing Board and the Senate of the University of Bayreuth thus honour Schramm's extraordinary commitment to the synergetic networking of city and region as well as business and science.
