African Culture & Society, Master of Arts (M.A.)

The Bayreuth Master's programme "African Culture & Society" is unique in Germany. The ambitious study programme imparts the scientific competencies of the African disciplines involved, and gives students broad access to cultural and social developments in Africa. In addition, graduates can successfully apply their skills in other regions of the world because the Master's programme teaches basic approaches to socio-cultural issues, using Africa as an example.

I already studied 'African Culture and Society' in the bachelor's programme at the University of Bayreuth. What was particularly great was the low student numbers and the close and warm contact with the lecturers. This almost family-like atmosphere creates very fruitful discussions in the seminars, and you take away many new ideas. In the master's programme of the same name, the range of topics is also very diverse and the courses are small. Also quite unique is the accompanying and largely financed research in an African country. Conducting research, all the way from thematic and methodological planning to execution in the field and evaluation, is a huge academic and especially personal enrichment that I can recommend to everyone.
