The excellent results of the ranking are based on a CHE survey of Bayreuth Master’s students in Mathematics and Physics. Together with factual information about the programmes, the evaluations provide an overview of the actual study conditions. In the CHE survey, students rated not only the overall study environment but also aspects such as the transition from the Bachelor’s to the Master’s programme, the range of courses offered, academic support, digital teaching elements, as well as the practical and research-oriented aspects of teaching. The latter includes, for instance, the extent to which teaching references current research findings and offers opportunities for students to engage in their own research activities within the framework of courses.
In both Mathematics and Physics at the University of Bayreuth, students highly value the excellent support provided by teaching staff, the comprehensive academic assistance, and the wide range of course offerings. The overall study environment and organisation received top marks, particularly due to the manageable class sizes, which allow for close personal mentoring. Bayreuth students also gave outstanding ratings for the transition from Bachelor’s to Master’s studies and for the research orientation, which includes opportunities for independent research work and thesis projects within research initiatives at the university. According to their assessment, completing the Master’s programme within a reasonable timeframe is very feasible.
“The excellent evaluation of our mathematics and physics degree programmes demonstrates that our beautiful campus university in Bayreuth is the perfect choice for a master’s degree in mathematics, physics, or computer science. With our outstanding qualifications, our graduates have every opportunity open to them,” says Prof. Dr. Michael Guthe, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science at the University of Bayreuth.
