Universität Bayreuth, Media Release No. 032/2021 15th March 2021

New "Digitalisation & Entrepreneurship" master's programme at the University of Bayreuth as of the 2021/22 winter semester

The University of Bayreuth is expanding its offering for students eager to actively shape the digital revolution. It has thus further raised its profile as a "university for entrepreneurs". With its new "Digitalisation & Entrepreneurship" (D&E) master's programme, the University addresses three major challenges in business and society: short innovation cycles, the far-reaching penetration of digital technology into all areas of life, and the expectation that young people think and act in an entrepreneurial, creative, and innovative way. Bachelor degree-holders can apply for this Bayreuth master's programme as of 15 March.

Studierende im neuen Masterstudiengang D&E werden befähigt und dezidiert motiviert, innovative Lösungen auf Basis digitaler Technologien zu gestalten – schon während des Studiums.

Established companies wishing to drive their digital transformation and test innovative business models or start-ups in the digital environment are crying out for graduates trained at the interface of digitalisation and entrepreneurship. The University of Bayreuth is aiming to meet these requirements with this master's programme, which is unique in Germany: "The planned D&E master's programme offers young scholars a scientifically sound but at the same time practical and project-oriented profiling at the interface of digitalisation and entrepreneurship," explains Prof. Dr. Maximilian Röglinger, Chair of Information Systems & Value-Based Business Process Management at the University of Bayreuth, adding:

"In the course of the digitalisation of the economy and society, universities are called upon to contribute to the market-oriented education of students in order to promote the founding of new companies, to actively shape the transformation of established companies, and to advance relevant research at this interface.”

The degree programme offers unique tailoring of content attractive to high-achieving students throughout Germany. One important part of the degree programme is that through direct contact with start-ups as well as regional and national business, participants can practically test the knowledge they have learned during their studies in project modules and intensify their learning success. For this purpose, students work on concrete tasks from the worlds of business and research in small project groups, in which they design innovative solutions, evaluate their feasibility using prototypes, and bring them to market readiness as fully-fledged business models. With a successful master's degree in D&E, students qualify for challenging tasks in business, research, and society.

Conceivable career fields for graduates of the D&E degree programme are:

  • Digital Business Analyst
  • Digital Product Owner
  • Digital Solution Architect
  • Digital Transformation Officer
  • Management positions in start-up incubators and accelerators
  • Project manager/coordinator
  • Company founder
  • Academic career in a university context or at research institutes

The programme is hosted by the renowned Faculty of Law, Business & Economics at the University of Bayreuth, the new Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation and the Information Systems unit, which cooperates closely with the Information Systems Management project group of the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology (FIT), and the Finance & Information Management (FIM) Research Centre.

The offer is primarily aimed at bachelor degree-holders with competencies in the fields of economics, information systems, and industrial engineering, as well as related or interdisciplinary fields of study. An aptitude test is required. Applications for the D&E master's programme can be submitted from 15.03. to 15.06.2021. Further information can be found here: www.de.uni-bayreuth.de
