Full Professor of Cell design of Electrochemical Energy Storage

at pay grade W 3 (minimum salary per month: 7,217 euros) to commence as soon as possible. This is a permanent civil service position.

We are looking for a scholar with an outstanding international track record in engineering research and development of electrochemical cells with a focus on their design. He or she should complement the expertise already in place in the Faculty of Engineering Science and develop new concepts, as well as continue inter-faculty cooperation, including with non-university institutions. The willingness and ability to attract third-party funding, also in coordinated programmes, must be evident.

The incumbent will be expected to play an active and leading role in the newly founded Bavarian Centre for Battery Technology (BayBatt).

The research focus of the chair should be on at least two of the following areas and have relevance for the development of electrochemical energy storage systems:

  • Battery cell design
  • Thermo-mechanical design
  • Design suitable for production
  • Integration of the cells into the battery system
  • Experimental validation

The postholder will be expected to play a central role in teaching in the interdisciplinary master's programme Battery Technology, which is currently under development, and to contribute aspects of mechanical engineering in particular. The willingness to be involved in bachelor's and other master's programmes is a prerequisite. The ability to teach in German and in English is expected.

In addition to the general administrative requirements, prerequisites for this position are a university degree, a doctoral degree, proven excellence in teaching, and a post-doctoral qualification to teach at a professorial level (Habilitation). Alternatively, evidence of equivalent scholarly achievement, for example as a junior professor or in a non-university environment, will also be considered. Only applicants who are 51 years of age or younger can be hired as civil servants. Exceptions will only be made if there are urgent reasons for doing so (Art. 10 Abs. 3 BayHschPG).
