Application deadline:
The University of Bayreuth is a research-oriented university with internationally competitive, interdisciplinary focus areas in research and teaching. The Faculty of Law, Business & Economics at the University of Bayreuth is currently seeking to appoint a
Full Professor of Health Care Management and Health Services Research
at salary grade W3 to commence on 1 October 2025. This is a permanent civil service position.
Data-based management decisions on distributing scarce resources are central to modern health services. Economic health services research is a critical methodological fundament for all kinds of evaluation and management of sectoral and cross-sectoral healthcare. This includes, for example, preference and demand research, the use of digital healthcare innovations, outcome measurement using patient-reported results and experiences, regional healthcare research, and the use of monetary and non-monetary incentive systems for healthcare system design in all areas of the healthcare industry. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate outstanding expertise and experience in addressing these topics using advanced quantitative and qualitative research methods.
Applicants should have publications in internationally competitive journals, relevant teaching skills, and experience acquiring and carrying out externally funded projects. Teaching duties include introductory and specialization courses in health economics in the bachelor's and master's programmes offered by the Faculty of Law, Business & Economics. The ability to teach both in English and German is an advantage. A willingness to engage in interdisciplinary research cooperation and connect with the Faculty's research priorities is also desirable.
In addition to the general legal requirements, prerequisites for this position are a university degree, a doctoral degree, proven excellence in teaching, and a post-doctoral qualification to teach at a professorial level (Habilitation). Alternatively, evidence of equivalent scholarly achievement, for example as a junior professor or in a non-university environment, will also be considered. Only applicants who are 51 or younger can be hired as civil servants. Exceptions will only be made if urgent reasons exist (Art. 60 para 3 BayHIG).
The University of Bayreuth views the diversity of its staff as an asset and is expressly committed to the goal of gender equality. Female scholars and any persons who can help make the research and teaching profile of the university more diverse are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants with children are highly welcome. The University of Bayreuth is a member of the best practice club Family at University, and it offers “dual career support” for career-oriented partners of highly qualified employees. In addition, an extended audit conducted by the German Rectors’ Conference (HRK) returned a favourable review of the University of Bayreuth’s commitment to internationalization. All qualifications being equal, applicants with disabilities will be given priority.
